How to Schedule an Automated Reboot in EM

Modified on Fri, 1 Aug at 12:48 AM

Objective:

To schedule a system reboot automatically at a specific date and time using the EM console's automation module.

This use case is related to automatically rebooting a device at a specific time using the automation feature in the EM console. Once the reboot job is created with a specified date and time, the system will consistently reboot every time as per the defined schedule—without any manual intervention. This helps in automating routine reboots as part of maintenance or compliance activities.

Steps to Schedule an Automatic Reboot:

  1. Navigate to the EM Console:

    • Go to EM > Actions > System

  2. Create a Reboot Automation:

    • In the "Create Response" section:

      • Operating System Family: Select Windows or any OS

      • Action: Select Reboot

      • Response Name: Provide a response name

      • Response Description: You may enter a similar description

      • Message: Enter a custom message, e.g., Scheduled_Automatic reboot

      • Time in Minutes: Set to 0 (to execute immediately after the scheduled time)

  3. Select Target Devices:

    • Under the Target section, select the appropriate devices

  4. Set the Schedule:

    • Choose how often to run the reboot:

      • Example: Select Weekly

      • Set to run every 1st week on Monday

      • Define the Start and End Time, e.g., 02:00 PM - 02:30 PM

  5. Create the Response:

    • Click on Create Response to finalise and schedule the automated reboot.

Conclusion:

By configuring a scheduled reboot through the EM console’s automation feature, you can reliably automate device restarts at specific intervals. This ensures systems are rebooted consistently as per the defined schedule, supporting regular maintenance routines without the need for manual effort.
