Overview

This article provides step-by-step instructions on how to block or unblock applications (including web-based applications) by managing their process name or process ID (PID) through the Saner CVEM console. This feature allows administrators to control application access on endpoints for security, compliance, or operational purposes.

Procedure

1. Access the Saner CVEM Console

  1. Log in to your Saner CVEM console.

  2. Navigate to the Endpoint Management module.

2. Open the Process Management Section

  1. Click on the Actions tab.

  2. From the dropdown, select Process.

3. Block an Application or Process

You can block an application using either its process name or process ID (PID).

  • Example:
To block the Microsoft Edge browser, select Block Process, then enter the process name (e.g, msedge.exe) or the process ID.

  • Once blocked, users attempting to open the application will receive an error message or the application will fail to launch.

Note: Ensure you note down the exact process name or PID before blocking. You will need this information to unblock the application later.

4. Unblock an Application or Process

To restore access to the blocked application:

  1. Go back to the Actions → Process section.

  2. Choose Unblock Process or Unblock by PID.

  3. Enter the same process name or PID that was used during the block operation.

After unblocking, the application will return to a normal working state.

Example Scenario

  • Blocked Application: Microsoft Edge (msedge.exe)

  • Blocking Method: Process Name

  • Result: When attempting to open Microsoft Edge, the user receives an error message, or the application fails to start.

  • Resolution: Unblocking the same process name (msedge.exe) restores normal operation.

Conclusion

Blocking or unblocking applications using the Process or Process ID feature in Saner CVEM provides administrators fine-grained control over endpoint activities. It is essential to maintain a record of process names or PIDs used for blocking to ensure proper restoration when required.
