Overview
In Saner CVEM, pinning allows you to manually assign specific devices to a particular group. Once pinned, the device will remain in that group permanently, regardless of any changes to the group’s criteria or the device’s attributes.
This is useful when you want certain critical devices to always stay in a group, even if they no longer meet the group’s automatic assignment rules.
You can also unpin devices at any time if you want them to move freely between groups based on criteria.
How to Pin Devices to a Group
Follow these steps to pin devices to a group:
From the Groups column, identify the device you want to pin.
Select the checkbox star to the device in the corresponding group.
On the top-right of the page, click the Pin icon.
Tip: Hover over the icon to view its name.
The Manage Pin for Devices window will open.
In the Manage Pin window, select the Pin option and click Add.
A confirmation message will appear, and a Pin icon will be displayed next to the group name.
Your device is now pinned and will remain in the selected group.

Unpinning a Device
If you want to unpin a device, repeat the steps above but choose the Unpin option in the Manage Pin window.
Moving Devices to Another Group
Before moving a device to a different group, ensure it is not pinned. A pinned device cannot be reassigned until it is unpinned.
Steps to Move Devices:
From the Managed Devices page, select one or more devices.
Click the Move Devices icon on the top-right of the page.
Tip: Hover over the icon to view its name.
The Manage Reassign pop-up will appear.
In the Manage Reassign pop-up:
Choose the group you want to move the device to from the drop-down list.
Select whether you want to pin the device to the new group.
Click Move.
If the device is already pinned, you will receive a notification.
If not, the device will be successfully moved to the selected group.
Best Practices: When to Use Pinning
Critical Servers or Assets: Pin important servers or sensitive devices to compliance or monitoring groups to ensure they are always tracked, regardless of attribute changes.
Temporary Exceptions: If you have a device that needs to stay in a testing or quarantine group temporarily, pin it so it doesn’t move back automatically.
Fixed Ownership: Pin devices that are assigned to a specific department, location, or business unit so they remain in that group even if their attributes change.
Audit and Compliance: For compliance audits, pinning ensures certain devices remain part of compliance-focused groups for consistent reporting.
Conclusion
The Pinning feature in Saner CVEM gives you full control over how devices are grouped. By pinning, you ensure that important devices stay fixed in the right group, regardless of automatic assignment rules. Combined with the move and unpin options, this feature provides flexibility to maintain accurate and reliable group structures in your environment.
Using pinning strategically ensures critical devices are always where they need to be, simplifies compliance tracking, and prevents devices from being misplaced due to automated grouping criteria.
