Objective


This article explains how to modify entries in the Windows hosts file using SanerCVEM.
Why: Controlling domain-to-IP mappings locally allows administrators to override DNS resolution, block/unblock sites, or ensure specific traffic routing without affecting the network.


Steps to Modify Hosts File Entry

  1. Login – Access SanerCVEM portal.

  2. Create ResponseEM → Actions → Network.

  3. Configure – Name (e.g., modifyhosts) and description.

  4. Select ActionModify Hosts File Entry.

  5. Enter Details – IP, hostname, and action (Add/Modify/Remove).

  6. Select Device(s) – Search and choose target Windows device(s).

  7. Execute – Save and run.

Verification

On Windows Device

  • Open hosts file (C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts) in Notepad as administrator.

  • Confirm the IP-hostname entry is updated.
