How to Determine if a Patch Requires a Reboot Before Applying It

Modified on Sun, 16 Mar at 8:09 PM

Overview

Before deploying a patch, it is crucial to verify whether a system reboot is required post-installation. This ensures smooth operations and prevents unexpected downtime. Saner CVEM provides a clear indicator for reboot requirements in its Patch Management module.

Steps to Check Reboot Requirement for a Patch

  1. Login to Saner CVEM.
  2. Navigate to the Patch Management module.
  3. Go to the "Missing Patches" section.
  4. Refer to the "Reboot" column:
    • FALSE – The patch does not require a reboot after installation.
    • TRUE – The patch requires a system reboot after installation.

Best Practice

Always apply patches in a test environment before deploying them in a production environment to mitigate any potential risks.
