Overview
This article explains why a license may continue to be consumed after uninstalling the Saner agent from a device and provides clear steps to completely remove the device from the console and release the associated license.
Issue Description
A device that already had an active license was intentionally uninstalled to test the remote-uninstall functionality. After reinstalling the agent, activation failed because the previous license was never released.
Observed behavior:
The device appears as “Uninstalled” in the Saner console
The device continues to consume a license
Reinstallation fails due to license exhaustion
Why This Happens
When the Saner agent is uninstalled from an endpoint, the device record is retained in the console and moved to the Unmanaged Devices list. Until this device entry is explicitly removed from the console, the associated license remains reserved.
Resolution
To fully remove the device and free the license, the device entry must be deleted from the console.
Step-by-Step Solution
Step 1: Confirm Agent Is Uninstalled
Ensure that the Saner agent is completely removed from the endpoint.
If the agent is still present, uninstall it locally or via remote uninstall.
Step 2: Locate the Device in the Console
Log in to the Saner console
Navigate to: Asset Management / Devices → Unmanaged Devices
Locate the device marked as Uninstalled
Step 3: Delete the Device Entry
Select the affected device
Click Delete from the console actions
Confirm the deletion
Once deleted:
The device entry is permanently removed from the console
The associated license is released immediately
Post-Resolution Validation
Verify the license count under License Management
Reinstall the agent on the endpoint
Activate the agent successfully using the freed license
Important Notes
Devices in the Unmanaged Devices list continue to consume licenses until explicitly deleted
Uninstalling the agent alone does not release the license
Always delete unused or decommissioned devices from the console to avoid license exhaustion
